In the meeting, there
was a representative of the Department of Science and International Cooperation
of the General Department of Irrigation - Ministry of Agriculture and Rural
Development. Other representatives of VAWR were from the Institute of Hydraulic
Engineering, Institute of Hydropower and Renewable Energy, Centre for Training
and International Cooperation and General Planning Department.
At the meeting, Mr.
Yanyu Chen, BIC Executive Director, gave a brief introduction about the China
Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research (IWHR), Beijing Institute
of Water Resources and Hydropower Research Corporation (BIC) and their mobile
dam technology (Hydraulic Elevator Dam). The China Institute of Water Resources
and Hydropower Research (IWHR) was established in 1958, with currently 1438
employees. Their activities mainly include the prevention of innundations,
droughts and floods; automation; irrigation; and polluted water treatment. In
addition, the Institute has the cooperation with many international
organizations and research centers, such as the International Associations for
the Studies of Environment, Association of Irrigation issues, water and dam
programs and international works, and other global organizations.
The Beijing Institute
of Water Resources and Hydropower Research Corporation (BIC) is one
sub-institute of the China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research
(IWHR) with the functions of implementing national and international projects
and mobile dam technology, which is introduced at the meeting with VAWR.
company's technical officer briefly introduced the mobile dam; its
characteristics; application; exploration and upgrading; the actual works which
have been applied and the advantages of the Corporation. Hydraulic Elevator Dam
as a new type of irrigation works is the new invention of the Corporation
resulted from the research projects in irrigation science and technology under
different irrigation and geological conditions. It can be applied for expanding
irrigation-hydropower projects, expanding reservoirs, and increasing capacity
of hydropower stations. Hydraulic Elevator Dam
technology is used by the Corporation for storing water in the reservoir, water
supply for the cities, sea tide protection, irrigation for agriculture and
water landscape of the city.
This technology has
many advantages such as fast operation, one by one gate opening, no floating
objects and sedimentation. The operation is simple and convenient, it is
possible to use peripherals to operate. This technology is popular in many
places in China and has been introduced and applied by the Corporation in some
countries such as Myanmar, Thailand and Indonesia.
Hydraulic Elevator Dam
technology has won many patents granted by the National Office of Inventions,
such as patents for new types of applications that are highly applicable, good
appearence, and invention. It was in the list of products being directed for
wide introduction of Advanced Irrigation Technology Promotion in 2014 of the
Ministry of Water Resources. During the meeting, representatives of the
Corporation wished to cooperate with the Academy to put this type of dam into
application in some reservoirs in Vietnam.
On behalf of the VAWR,
Prof. Tran Dinh Hoa - Deputy Director General has introduced existing dams as
river barrages and other kinds of works in the world. Also on this occasion,
our Deputy Director invited the BIC team to attend and introduce their dam technology
as a solution for river barrage at the workshop "Impact assessment of
lowering the Red River water level" to be held on 22/3 and chaired by Vice
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Mr. Hoang Van Thang. The Deputy
Director also invited the delegation to attend another workshop on river
barrage solutions tentatively in September.
On behalf of the
Corporation, Mr. Yanyu Chen - Excercutive Director thanked the VAWR for the
workshops’ invitations and expected the two sides to keep communication through
key contact persons, and invited the VAWR to pay visit to the Company's mobile
dams constructed in China in the coming time. He hoped to discuss more issues
with details in the next meeting.
