Deputy General Director of the Vietnam Academy for Water
Resources Assoc, Dr. Nguyen Tung Phong
attended and spoke at the course.
Attending the course
has 19 participants are scientists, researchers from the Southern Institute of
Water Resources Research, Institute of Coastal and Offshore Engineering, the
Central Vietnam Institute of Water Resources, the Institute for Water and Environment,
Institute of Hydropower and Renewable Energy, Center for Training and
International Cooperation, Centre for Water Resources Software Technology, Key
Laboratory of River and Coastal Engineering, Thanh Hoa Department of
Agriculture and Rural Development and Planning Department
Opening speech at the
course, Deputy Director of VAWR, Assoc. Dr. Nguyen Tung Phong emphasized that
Vietnam has been faced with many disasters, heavily influenced by climate
change, the catastrophe caused by natural disaster such as shoreline erosion
and sedimentation door river bed changes, surges, flooding ... led to
fluctuations in the coastal ecosystem. In the current disasters, storms
accounted about 80% on each year, Vietnam suffered from 6-10 storms, causing
huge losses of life and property damage caused by natural disasters about 1.8%
Vietnamese Government is actively working to prevent and mitigate natural
disasters, changing from disaster prevention to disaster risk management.
Therefore, the application of technical advances, science and technology to
strengthen the capacity forecasting, early warning urgently needed, in which
space technologies are very important technologies and effective in the work of
Disaster risk management in Vietnam in the coming time, such as ground
monitoring, real-time applications, the sensor space ..., Assoc, Dr. Nguyen
Tung Phong said.
Assoc, Dr. Nguyen Tung
Phong appreciated and desired that through training course, trainees will
acquire, learn a lot of experience and can apply on scientific research and
production. At the same time, on behalf of the Vietnam Academy for Water
Resources, Deputy Director thanks to the University of Tokyo, Asian Institute
of Technology AIT, JAXA and SAFE has supported VAWR in sharing information and
experiences in monitoring shoreline and hope through this training will open up
long-term cooperation in the future.
Objectives of the
training: (1) Enhance capacity to use remote sensing technology to serve
forecasting developments and monitoring coastal areas and estuaries; (2) To
enhance cooperation on science and technology and the exchange of information
between scientific staffs of the VAWR and lecturers of the University of Tokyo
- Japan; (3) Through training course capacity of the participants as well as
enhance the application of technology, access to technology.
Two professors from the
University of Tokyo - Japan taught and supported technique.
